Banff National Park, situated in the Canadian Rockies, is a mesmerizing natural wonder. With its awe-inspiring mountain landscapes, pristine lakes, and rich wildlife, it stands as an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Here’s an 8-day travel itinerary for my Banff National Park adventure from October 18, 2023, to October 25, 2023:
Day 1: Arrival in Calgary, Canada 🇨🇦
- Arrive in Calgary, Canada, and pick up your rental car.
- Drive towards Banff National Park.
- Check in at Canmore base camp lodge in Canmore, Alberta.
- Explore the charming town of Canmore and stock up on groceries at Safeway. Enjoy making sandwiches for lunch and simple dinners.
Day 2: Lake Louise
- Start day with a visit to Lake Louise, one of the park’s iconic and stunning lakes.
- Embark on a hike around Lake Louise to savor the breathtaking views.
- Share the beauty of your 5.7-mile hike on the Little Beehive Trail with a 1,755-foot elevation gain in Lake Louise, Banff National Park.
Day 3: Banff Gondola and Sulphur Mountain
- Take the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views of the Rockies.
- Enjoy the incredible view on top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff National Park.
- Later in the day, tackle the moderately challenging 2.7-mile out-and-back Tunnel Mountain Summit hike.
Day 4: Johnston Canyon
- Explore Johnston Canyon and hike to the Lower and Upper Falls.
- Take on the more challenging hike to the Upper Falls, appreciating the unique limestone walls and natural formations.
- Continue with a hike to the Ink Pots, a series of colorful mineral springs within Johnston Canyon.
Day 5: Yoho National Park
- Take a day trip to Yoho National Park, adjacent to Banff.
- Explore the stunning Emerald Lake and enjoy a leisurely walk along its shoreline. Admire the captivating reflections on the emerald-colored water.
Day 6: Icefields Parkway / Snow Day
- Drive along the famous Icefields Parkway, one of the world’s most scenic routes.
- Despite a change in plans due to snowy weather, enjoy the beauty of Lake Louise covered in snow.
Day 7: Local Exploration in Canmore
- Explore the charming Canmore town center, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains.
- Discover boutique shops, outdoor gear stores, art galleries, and gift shops.
- Conclude the day with a delightful dinner at Edo Japan and witness a family of elk navigating through traffic.
Day 8: Departure
- Leave early due to weather conditions.
- Return to Calgary Airport, check in early, and relax in the priority lounge.
- Sum up Banff National Park trip, reflecting on its success and the promise of a return visit.
